Administering a Trust.
Trust administration has a number of recognized advantages over probate administration: it is not public; typically it is less time consuming; the cost will often be less than statutory probate fees. Nonetheless, trust administration involves many of the same processes as a probate: the trust estate must be collected, debts paid, notices given, accountings made and distribution carried out.
California law has very specific requirements regarding notice to beneficiaries and accounting requirements which are often ignored by family member trustees. Failure to follow these rules (or failure to follow the terms of the trust) will often result in litigation.
